500 Days of Catching Fire
When there is little hope, we’re really good at developing a false sense of it. Right now, Catching Fire news sounds damn near hopeless, but fear not! We’ve developed a theory that will help us all survive through the ever-lengthening news-less days for a while!
We have to mention that this theory was originally brought to our attention by a comment on the site– and of course we can’t find the comment anywhere to give that person credit. ANYWAY…
THE THEORY IS THIS: Lionsgate gets its kicks from milestone dates. We’ve had major announcements and contests come to us on big countdown dates, like #HungerGames100, #HungerGames50, and #HungerGames12. Why would Catching Fire be any different?
In eleven days and a few hours spare change, we will be at what we’ll call #CatchingFire500! Yes, just a measly 500 days between us and the release of Catching Fire! On the twelfth day, we’re predicting that we’ll finally get a major announcement– hopefully in the form of casting.
Why do we think this is plausible, you ask?
First, the actors are talking more openly about the film. It’s clear that all the major players have had detailed discussions about Catching Fire with Francis Lawrence, as they’ve all discussed how happy they are with the direction the film will take.
Thanks to Jena Malone, we can at least confirm that there is actual auditioning going on too! When you think about it, not a single rumored Finnick audition has been authenticated, which makes us want to do the Charlie Brown scream. And if the film still plans to start shooting in late August, they would need to hire people very, very soon. Contracts can be long, complicated processes after all, and filming simply cannot be delayed.
We’re not saying we’ll get ALL THE NEWS together on one day. They’ll spread it out, make it agonizing. We just think that day would be an excellent time for Lionsgate to start, considering their affinity for big milestone days and our desperate pleas for some news to keep us going!
500 days may be a long way out to start the countdown, but Lionsgate also knows that Hunger Games fans are juuuuust crazy enough to go along with it like its totally legit to start an add campaign a year and a half before a movie’s release!

*FINGERS CROSSED*
I’ve always thought that the best place to announce casting for Catching Fire was Comic Con, which starts on the 12th.
I could subscribe to that theory, but the Comic-Con schedule has already been revealed and Lionsgate doesn’t have any sort of Hunger Games related presence there. And I don’t think they’ll announce it during another panel or presentation, because that’s just bad form.
This is smart. That means TEN DAYS! :O
As long as Zoe Aggeliki is nowhere near Catching Fire I’ll be happy!
We think it’s really unfair to judge Zoe Aggeliki. She hasn’t even been in anything! And hating on actors by looks alone just ain’t cool.
I’m a little desperate for casting news, so I’m going to go with your theory just to give my mind a break for the next 11 days. But please have in your pocket a backup theory, just in case the 500 day thing doesn’t pan out!
Victor’s Village. First of all, I love this site. Seriously, it’s the bright spot in my sometimes boring days. Second, I did mention this theory myself in a comment on an article posted a while ago. I don’t know if I’m the person who you’re referring to, but I thought I would speak up anyways. I left the comment on the post “Can A Fan Get Some Confirmed Catching Fire News Already?!’. This is my crazy crackpot theory, but I thought it was worth a shot at mentioning. I hope it’s true! I’m going stir crazy!
