117 Minutes?
Yes, we’ve gotten a lot of news today. A new trailer, our first interview with Jennifer and Josh, a whopping 50 contests for to win tickets to The Hunger Games premiere, a new still and news that the movie will be in IMAX for a week. It’s all been very exciting! Such a great day to be a Hunger Games fan. In addition to all that, we’ve just learned via the movie’s Facebook page that it will be 117 minutes long.
At just under 2 hours (and remember that’s including title credit – if they’re not during the movie – and ending credits), could that possibly be too short?
To put this into perspective, Twilight was 122 minutes, Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone was 152 minutes and The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring was a whopping 178 minutes long. And since so much happens in The Hunger Games, it’s a bit alarming that it isn’t as long as, say, Sorceror’s Stone, which is arguably the least meaty plot-wise of the Harry Potter series. They could be cutting out parts that should definitely be in there that didn’t need to be cut out.
Then again, do we need it to be that long? If it’s too long, it could drag. Breaking Dawn Part 1 is also 117 minutes and frankly that movie dragged. Then again, not much actually happens in that movie, which we know can’t be said about The Hunger Games.
We can’t really judge whether or not the (relatively short for a franchise) length is a good idea or not until after we’ve seen the movie. A tighter movie might be better. A lot of criticism from non-fans of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies is that they’re boring because they’re long (it hurt me to write that), and we need non-hardcore fans to see and like The Hunger Games.
I’m willing to give the filmmakers in charge the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Though I’d never say no to more movie

I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt, and also hope that the DVD extras are going to be amazing, also full of deleted scenes. Hell there should be a collector’s edition on par with the collector’s edition of Serenity.
Me too. I’m expecting that since the 2nd half of the film will be mostly action, it won’t be dragged out.
We have to remember a large part of the book is Katniss inner talk about all the events, and movie language is a lot faster than writing. The action scenes are fast(obviously)but in the book they have to be well explained so the reader can picture them. I think, for a book where Katniss is more reactive than active and is more fisical than the other two books, it`s possible to be great without taking too long. Or maybe I just want it to be good so badly that I`ll come up with as many excuses as i can…….. *o*
No me gusta.
